THE ASOLAN HILLS
Historical memories and natural panoramas, medieval views and Palladian villas blend into a single landscape surrounding Asolo.
Nestling gently in the contours of the surrounding hills, Asolo is crowned with the soft, warm shapes of a Mediterranean scene of olive groves, vines and cypresses.
The hills rise on the plane between Asolo and Cornuda; to the north they are protected by foothills and a little further west by massive Mount Grappa. In stretches covered by woods that have run wild and still bristling with age-old chestnut trees, they extend on one side towards Monfumo, an area entirely covered with vineyards, Castelli down as far as Valcavasia, on the other westwards, in the area of Fonte, San Zenone, Paderno and Crespano.
The sun-kissed peaks of the hills are covered with meadows where, among dog rose shrubs and juniper, heather alternates with highly-coloured anemones. The shaded valleys are furrowed with rivulets of spring water, among the violets, anemones, cyclamen, squirrels, mountain goats, blackbirds, finches etc. In this natural environment bursting with flora and fauna, the changing colours and species that accompany the procession of the seasons are truly striking.
The Asolan Hills and Mount Grappa certainly offer the possibility of excursions on foot or horseback and routes of natural and geological interest, as well wonderful cycle routes.
