A VISIT TO THE MUSEUM
The visit to the City Museum is an opportunity to deepen your knowledge of the things that a simple walk through the city briefly shows you.
The present museum is located in the building of the Loggia della Ragione as well as the Palazzo del Vescovado, formally the city hall in the fourteenth century and built to house the representatives of the City Council and the Magnifica Comunità di Asolo, it had frescoes added around the middle of the sixteenth century.
The museum includes the following sections:
Archaeology: this section includes materials dating from pre-historical times to the Renaissance, found in both the centre of Asolo and in the surrounding area.
Art gallery: paintings and panels that have arrived at the Museum largely as a result of the generosity of various donors between the Nineteenth century and today.
Treasure of the Cathedral: a number of sacred vestments are housed, heritage of the Asolan cathedral.
Caterina Cornaro: dedicated to Queen Cornaro, the section contains paintings, documents. Drawings and items that have arrived at the Museum mainly through the donations made in the nineteenth century by various personalities.
Eleonora Duse: exhibits the Eleonora Duse-related material, lent to the Museum by daughter Enrichetta, it is of various types and ranges from portraits and photographs of the actress to documents, notes and signed letters as well as recognitions and personal effects. some spaces have also been given over to the memory of Gabriele D'Annunzio, Asolo in the Nineteenth Century and English poet Robert Browning.
