In Piazza D'Annunzio the Palazzo Beltramini (18), worthy of careful examination. It was revamped in the eighteenth century by architect Giorgio Massari and is the City Hall nowadays. Also to be seen is the Casa della Duse (Duse House) (19), in via Canova, with a commemorative stone dictated by the poet Gabriele D'Annunzio.
The arcaded streets, the frescoed façades with two- and three-mullioned windows and the balconies are particularly characteristic. Among these is via Browning where the English Poet once lived: the street is overlooked by buildings and houses in Gothic and Baroque style with frescoes from the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. A little further on, we find the small sixteenth-century Zen Fountain (3) and Villa Freya (4), residence of Freya Stark, the garden of which contains traces of the Roman Theatre, among other things.
If we widen the radius of the distance from the centre, the thirteenth-century Church of S. Gottardo (1) with its interesting frescoes and the casa-fondazione Malipiero (2)(house-foundation); are worthy of note as are the Convent of St. Pietro e Paolo (11); the Church of S. Caterina (21) with fifteenth-century frescoes. And again, moving slightly away from the city wall, Casa Longobarda (22), the Church of S. Anna (24), on the hill with the cemetery containing the tombs of Eleonora Duse and Freya Stark. The Villa degli Armeni (23), near Sant'Anna, has frescoes on the façade dating back to the seventeenth century depicting biblical scenes; an underground tunnel connects it to the annexe called "Il Fresco" that looks out on the opposite slope of the hill, turned towards the city.
To the west of the city, in the outlying administrative district of Pagnano, stands an old structure called the "Maglio" (25), a small forge dating back to 1468, in working order up to a few years ago and now restored.
